When 21-year-old Paul Ieti stepped onto the America’s Got Talent stage, he brought with him more than just a dream of performing. The young U.S. Army soldier had recently returned from a demanding nine-month deployment in Afghanistan. Standing in front of the judges and audience, he shared how music had become his strongest support during some of the most difficult moments overseas. For Paul and many of the soldiers around him, singing was more than entertainment — it was a way to stay hopeful during challenging times.
Before the performance even began, the audience could feel how important this moment was for him.
For his audition, Paul chose to sing Rihanna’s emotional ballad “Stay.” It was an unexpected choice that immediately created curiosity in the room. But as soon as he began singing, the atmosphere inside the theater changed completely.
