Tornado Tragedy: Kentucky Couple Loses Arms Holding Onto Each Other

Paul and Gail Cline, a couple in their 60s from Laurel County, Kentucky, suffered devastating injuries when a tornado demolished their home on May 17, 2025. Clinging to each other during the storm, the couple tragically lost opposite arms due to the tornado’s ferocious force. A neighbor pulled them from the debris.

Gail is on life support with severe lung and rib injuries, while Paul, who has dementia, is in shock but recovering. Their nieces noted that the couple’s desperate grip on one another likely led to their specific injuries—a poignant testament to their bond.

The tornado obliterated their family home, leaving their loyal 12-year-old dog, Sadie, waiting in the rubble. A GoFundMe has been launched to help with their medical and housing costs.

The deadly storm claimed at least 19 lives in southeastern Kentucky, with Governor Andy Beshear calling for prayers and community support.
